Sony Playstation 3 Slim (PS3 Slim) Owner Experience

Media playback
Overall media playback capability is decent enough. The main problem is for DivX files, the subtitles need to be embedded in the movie files itself (movie with subtitles, file extension .divx). Media browsing can be very slow especially with large drives, such as 500 GB external drive. I am still figuring my way out on how to improve the overall media browsing speed of PS3.
- ATRAC files compatible – need to be enabled through system setting
- .MKV compatible – tested by onetwenty. However, in some files, no sound can be heard.
- uPNP compatible – can be discovered through your network
- H.264 compatible
- Subtitles compatible – by embedding subtitle file into .divx file. Tested by onetwenty.
- WMA compatible – playability can be adjusted in settings page
Connectivity
- Can be controlled remotely, such as from PSP Go or SonyEricsson Aino
- Bluetooth device support
- Wi-Fi enabled (802.11b/g)
Supported controllers
- Logitech (Wired) Rumblepad 2, does not support vibration function though.
- Logitech Wireless Rumblepad (according to some sources)
Storage
- Games cannot be installed fully into PS3 hard disk. Games Blu-ray yang dimainkan tidak boleh diinstall sepenuhnya ke dalam PS3. Hanya ‘game cache’ akan diinstall dalam PS3. Ketika ingin bermain, tetap memerlukan Blu-Ray disc.
- Pictures, music, videos can be copied into PS3’s internal hard disk
- FAT32 compatible – 500GB drives still compatible, although the browsing of files inside becomes slower.
- NTFS non-compatible – strictly not compatible. Tested and proven as on December 2009. Future firmware upgrade might solve this.
- FAT – not yet tested. Might be compatible.
Firmware
- Upgradeable through internet/external storage
- Firmware size is more than 100 MB
